It’s hard to find a good beginners book on Art Quilts. There’s a lot of fabulous books out there, don’t get me wrong, but beginners can find themselves swamped with Art Quilt books that are quite frankly intimidating. Stop looking.

I’ve found the perfect beginners Art Quilt instruction book. I received a complimentary copy from Leisure Arts and it’s a keeper. The authors (Banar Designs) have gone to great lengths to start at the very beginning and slowly take the reader on the journey of discovering how Art Quilts are created in various craft genres.

The first chapter is titled Sew and Quilting and covers the basics of quilting as well as edging techniques for Art Quilts and making a crazy quilt base. There’s also some information on Appliquéing and machine stitched appliqué. From there the chapters continue to build on each other offering different techniques.

Topics coverare are Hand and Machine Stitching; Photo Transferring, Gold Leafing and Rubber Stamping, Coloring Fabric and finally Sprays, crayons and Tea Staining. Everything you need to know to get you up and running on the road to your first Art Quilt.

This book is beautifully photographed, the instructions and diagrams are very clear and concise and there is an awesome gallery in the back to whet your appetite! Bon Appetite!!
