US Constitution - Federal Marriage Amendment Why must a president continually try to throw his weight and all his might into his own agendas? Why cannot the leader of the "FREE" world use his position of power to better the rights of those who are part of the most "free" nation in the world? Unfortunately, for us American's, this is not possible under the regime of President George W. Bush. He is a man with a vengeance. He is only thinking with his moral and religious convictions and not with his own head. He is the epitome of an oxymoron. In one breath, he is quick to tell us that he thinks what goes on in the privacy of ones home and their bedroom is their own business, and in the next say that the sanctity of marriage is under attack by leftist radical judges and gay person’s nation wide. In the recent news we heard that he has nothing against gays and said he wouldn't do anything to restrict the rights of gays... unfortunately this was before he held the highest office in this nation. Instead of standing up for the things he so-called believed in, he has let the issues and the scorecard of the religious right run his office. He has let the religious fanatics decide what this country should stand for. He has let the voice of a few out rule the voice of the many. There are so many different polls out there that say that GLBT persons should have equal rights and be protected under the law, but we don't see these laws happening in the federal government. When a President stops listening to the voice of the masses, we start having problems. We start seeing rights taken away. We see people becoming second and third class citizens. We see Germany and WWII all over again. What Bush is doing by backing this federal marriage amendment is like what Hitler did in Germany. They both are taking away the rights of many for the sanctity of the few. Both pushed religious agendas and made millions of people worthless in the eyes of the government. It makes the masses have no voice, and the one supreme leader the God of the new regime. We, as gay people, need to stand up to the opinions of the few and fight for the fundamental rights that are due to us. As I have said, many times before... let us get off the marriage train and fight for the basic human and civil rights we deserve first. Once we win one battle, move on to the next. "We hold these truths to be self-evident... that all men are created EQUAL.” The words we hold dear and they should never be changed to include hate and discrimination. The constitution had stood for freedoms and liberties for over 250 years now... let us make sure Bush will fail to be the first President in our history to write hate and discrimination into this precious document. Stand up for our rights and fight... fight... fight! Jase ;0) Jason P. Ruel Editor, Gay Lesbian News *********************For More Reading, Jase Recommends********************
