Alicia Minshew

Alicia Minshew
Early Life
Alicia Minshew, who is best known for her portrayal of Kendall Hart Slater on ABC’s daytime sudser, All My Children (AMC), was born on May 28, 1974 in Plantation, Florida. Alicia's father, Jim, is an Episcopalian minister, while her mother, Lenore Hubbard, is a fitness instructor. Alicia is one of four daughters. While attending South Fork High School in Stuart, Florida, Alicia served as president of the Drama Club, which led her to receive a musical theatre scholarship to Indian River College. There she performed in the plays Grease, Kiss Me, Kate, Godspell and Nunsense, as well as hosted the satellite music TV show The Music Zone. She eventually moved to Manhattan where she auditioned for a role on All My Children. Casting director, Judy Blye Wilson, was definitely interested in the young actress, but decided that she needed a little more experience under her belt before being offered a contract role.

Kendall Hart Slater
In 2002, she was offered to play the role of the devious Kendall Hart Slater, who previously had been portrayed by Sarah Michelle Gellar. Over the years, the character has been transformed into one of the most beloved heroines on AMC.

Personal Life
In October 2008, Minshew (affectionately known as Lish) married Richie Herschenfeld, owner of Lucky's Famous burger shop on 52nd Street in Manhattan, who is also the best friend of her on-screen husband Thorsten Kaye (Zach Slater). She is close friends with co-star Rebecca Budig (Greenlee Smythe). Minshew and her husband welcomed the birth of their daughter Willow Lenora Herschenfeld on November 4, 2009. Lish has been quoted as saying; she is seeing the world through new eyes since welcoming daughter Willow Lenora. “I would do anything for her,” the actress tells Soap Opera Digest. Even though Willow has been a “dream baby” who is “forever smiling,” “chatty” and “giggly,” Minshew, confesses that she still had difficulty making the transition from being career minded to one as a working mom. Overall, the journey has been a joyous one and she is thankful to the many friends and co-workers who helped get her through those tough, sleep deprived times.

Awards and Accolades
Motherhood has not slowed Lish down. She has been nominated three times for soapy related awards, most recently, in 2009 for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Drama Series. Additionally, she was nominated for Soap Opera Digests’ Outstanding Supporting Actress and Outstanding Newcomer in 2005 and 2003, respectively.

Alicia continues to lend her support to Poz, an international HIV/AIDS media outlet. According to the site, “POZ magazine and poz.com serves the community of people living with and those affected by HIV/AIDS, POZ chronicles the AIDS pandemic domestically—and around the world.”
