One Wrong Move

Guest Author - Elizabeth Darrach

Hello, and welcome back! I hope you're all stocked up on your warm beverage of choice, as it looks like Mother Nature has finally made up her mind to fall, so plenty of reading can be done now on those chilly, wet and windy autumn afternoons. I found a chocolate tea recently that I've been dying to try, and it looks like I might get that chance very soon. Perhaps I can put a bigger dent in my to-read stack while I'm at it. Let's hope so, because those stacks teeter a little more every day.

This time out, I have the latest from Shannon McKenna, one of my very favorite authors, One Wrong Move (Brava, purchased). Alex Aaro is willing to chance his life to see his dying aunt. Then his buddy Bruno calls and needs him to make sure his soon-to-be-wife's best friend Nina Christie stays alive and safe from the Ukranian mob. Alex is a serious bad boy, one who has no intention of staying in one place long enough to put down roots or to get attached to anybody, but from the moment he pulls Nina out of her closet after scaring away the bad guys, it's inevitable that he's going to have to give in to the pull between them. But that doesn't mean he has to let it get beyond sex, which is bound to be smoking hot, the way she looks at him and the way he feels when he's close to her. Nina has a weird little ability she's kept secret for years, making sure no one notices her. But Alex notices her, even when she tries her hardest to keep that from happening. The trouble is, she can't help but notice him, too, and the connection between them only heightens that, making it impossible to keep her heart unentangled--or his. Shannon McKenna does dangerous bad boys like no one else, which is one of the biggest points of appeal for me in her stories. They might be bad, they might be damaged, but there is always a tiny chink in their armor that allows the heroine to work her way in. The bad guys are always lurking, hot on their heels, but you know they can't win. Alex is a definite keeper, even with his own damage and secrets. Who can possibly resist this guy? Not me, that's for sure, and I doubt you can either. I'm borrowing four of Cupid's five arrows for this one. Alex and Nina are seriously hot, and it's nice to revisit old friends.

Until next time, happy reading!
