Dim Sum Mother's Day Brunch Menu
Dim sum is a fun and unique way to celebrate Motherís Day. Traditionally served for brunch, dim sum consists of small bite sized foods such as dumplings, buns, and other small plates of food. These foods are usually brought around to each table on a serving cart and each guest chooses what they would like. For a party these dishes can be served buffet style. The recipes below are some fun and easy suggestions to create the perfect dim sum buffet for Motherís Day. You can make all of these dishes or just choose a few and serve them along with some tea, which is traditional, and (or) champagne, enjoy.
These small steamed dumplings are filled with the traditional mixture of ground pork, shrimp, and spices and wrapped in a basket shape with a wonton wrapper. They are then decorated with a small piece of carrot making them not only great to look at but flavorful as well. Small green peas can are also sometimes used as a garnish for these dumplings.
Shrimp spring rolls
These deep fried crispy shrimp spring rolls are flavored with a combination of five spice, coriander and lime zest which creates an amazingly delicious treat. These can be made ahead of time and then deep fried right before serving.
Char siu chicken pastries
This recipe uses pre made puff pastry that is cut into triangles and filled with a delicious sweet barbecued chicken. This is easy to make and is perfect for a Motherís Day brunch.
Pot stickers- pan fried dumplings
Pot stickers or pan fried dumplings are called Jiaozi in Chinese pot stickers and gyoza in Japanese. These are small fried dumplings that are filled with a mixture of ground pork, cabbage, and seasonings.
Vegetarian Wonton Cups
Though not traditionally served with dim sum, these vegetarian filled wonton cups are a great option for guests who may prefer not to eat meat. Wonton wrappers are baked into cup shapes using a simple muffin pan. Then they are filled with a mix of vegetables and cashews. Both the filling and cups can be cooked ahead of time, and then put together right before serving.
Little bite sized treats filled with a spicy pineapple jam are easy to make using pre made piecrust, which can usually be found in most local grocery stores. This recipe is perfect and easy to make for Motherís Day.
