Martha Stewart - Her Hair

Martha Stewart has often been my guru for decorating, cooking and organizing tips but I have not always been pleased with the hairstyles that she wears.
She is blessed with hair that is thick and strong. However it seems to fall forward into a curtain over one side of her face. Women with this type of hair often resort to trimming short bangs. However these can look a bit too thick, 'stubby' and childish. An alternative to this is holding their hair back with a headband or barrettes. This is still not desirable for a woman over forty years of age. A third choice and one that Ms Stewart often wears, is keeping the front long, either draping over one eye or tucked behind her ear. Younger women, with firm skin can many times wear a similar style effectively. However, hair that is heavy and long in front is not always attractive to aging faces. The bulkiness of the hair tends to overpower feminine features.

I suggest that Ms Stewart keep her hair short enough in front to offer some control and softness to her features but long enough to sweep to one side. The length of the hair in front can be angled from eyebrow level at the part and extending down to about ear level on the other side. Then this hair should be texturized to lighten and create shorter hairs underneath that will serve to lift the longer hair so that it doesn't lay so heavily on her face.

Types of texurizing

If you have similar challenges in your hair style, use these styling tips.
After shampoo and conditioning apply a firm hold hair gel to the root area of all your hair, paying particular attention to the bang and temple area.

The addition of a strong spray gel such as L C Legacy Root Lifter will add a great deal of hold and easier styling. Spray it directly at the base of the bangs and of the hair at the temple. When you use the blow dryer to put lift into the bangs and to blow the sides back away from your face, they will stay
where you put them.

With the proper cutting, styling and the use of effective styling aids, thick, heavy hair such as Ms Stewart's will be as beautiful as it was meant to be.
