The Mummy (1999)
This updated version of one of movie’s classic characters found Rick O’Connell, Evelyn Carnahan and brother, Jonathan along with Ardeth Bey, a member of the mysterious Medjai, trying to stop the High Priest Imhotep from regenerating and bringing back Anck Su Namun…not to mention the apocalypse. Here are a few movie mistakes to look for while watching 1999’s “The Mummy”.

∙ At the very beginning of the movie, Pharaoh Seti I is shown in Thebes. As Seti is riding his chariot, the pyramids can be seen in the background. Although a number of temples were built in Thebes, the pyramids were not. Also, Anck Su Namum and Imhotep murder Seti I. While the cause of Seti I’s death is unknown, most Egyptologists believe that he died naturally and no evidence of murder was ever found on his mummy.

∙ When Evelyn is first shown, she is trying to reshelf books while standing on a ladder. She leans back to replace the book on Tuthmosis. The ladder tilts straight up on its ends and Evelyn drops the book. However, in the wide views, showing Evelyn trying to balance herself on the ladder, there is no book on the floor.

∙ The boat that is carrying everyone down the river is under attack and on fire. Jonathan, having just barely escaped an attack, comes out on deck and looks at Henderson, Daniels, Burns and a cowering Dr. Allen Chamberlain, who are shooting their guns. During the side view of the group, the three who are firing weapons are wearing earplugs!

∙ Evelyn, Rick and Jonathan are separated from Warden Gad Hassan when he is attacked by a scarab. When the three run to his aide, they first see him in a hallway and the Warden’s shirt is pulled out and open. But, when he hits the nearby wall and falls down, his shirt is now tucked and partially buttoned.

∙ CAUTION: May Contain Spoilers! Near the end of the movie, Rick thrusts a sword into a mortal Imhotep. Imhotep grabs his stomach, draws his hand away and sees blood. The blood is especially noticeable on the back of his left hand. He then puts his hands over the wound again and steps into the water. But, a view of his hands shows there is now no blood to be seen!

“The Mummy” (1999) stars Brendan Fraser, Rachel Weisz, John Hannah, Arnold Vosloo, Oded Fehr, Kevin O’Connor, Jonathan Hyde, Erick Avari, Corey Johnson, Tuc Watkins, Stephen Dunham, Omid Djalili, Aharon Ipale, Bernard Fox and Patricia Velasquez. It runs 125 minutes and is rated PG-13 for pervasive adventure violence and some partial nudity.
