Mountain Quilters Peachester Quilt Show 2014

Mountain Quilters Peachester Quilt Show 2014

Today I had the pleasure of visiting the biannual Quilt Show presented by the Mountain Quilters at Peachester, a sleepy little village about 80kms from Brisbane.

The Mountain Quilters are a very productive group and the quilt show reflects this. Today there were lots and lots of beautiful quilts to browse and enjoy. The group also held a table runner challenge and a block challenge and these were very well supported by the members.

The community hall at Peachester was full to the brim with keen quilt show enthusiasts this morning, and the theme of Garden Party was beautifully displayed on the stage. A great deal of effort and thought has been put into this delightful display.

For a small community hall, there were lots of quilts hanging and every inch of space was used. The Mountain Quilters are very proud to have a certified tutor of the Judy Niemeyer designs as one of their members, and there were a number of these paper pieced quilts on show.

The Art Quilts genre was very well represented and I just had to show you some of the wonderful creations on display. Bernadine Hine Click here for Bernadine Hine website)had some absolutely mind blowing botanical quilts on show and when looking at the photos it’s really hard to believe that they are made with fabric.

Her piece (I’m sorry I don’t know its title) depicts leaf litter – the type you would see on any tropical rainforest floor is simply magnificent. All made from fabric and machine embroidered to give the vital real life details.

Bernadine is one of Australia’s foremost art quilters and I would encourage you to pop over to her BlogSpot and see the types of things she creates – it’s awesome.

Another art quilter Alwyn Bowyer made the delightful Australian scene and it has a real sense of the outback and Alwyn has captured the true Australian outback colours beautifully.

I took some photos of the types of quilts I like too. I do hope you enjoy seeing the terrific quilts that were on display at Peachester today. Well done Mountain Quilters!
