The Quick And the Dead

The Quick And the Dead
Who’s quick enough to survive the series of gunfights in a small town run by John Herrod? As gunfighters fall one by one, it becomes clear that Ellen a.k.a. The Lady, Fee a.k.a. The Kid and Cort all have a score to settle. Here are a few movie mistakes to look for while watching “The Quick and the Dead”.

∙ When Ellen is having dinner with Herrod, he starts peeling an apple. The silver spoon on the table in front of him is initially next to Herrod’s wine glass. The scene cuts to Ellen and then back to Herrod, who is still peeling the apple. The spoon is noticeably further away from the glass. Later in the scene, when she cocks the pistol, the spoon is back in its original position.

∙ Herrod “changes the rules” during his showdown with Cantrell. Cantrell then says “Well, I was going to kill you anyway”. There’s a front view of Herrod with his right arm pointed out. He then puts his hand next to his holster. In the following back/above view, his arm is straight by his side and he reaches up to the holster again.

∙ Eugene Dred comes downstairs with the barkeep’s daughter, Katie. The pistol that he’s carrying is first near his left shoulder and it’s almost vertical. After he talks to the barkeep, the pistol is against his arm and almost horizontal.

∙ CAUTION: May Contain Spoilers! Near the end of the movie, in the flashback sequence, Ellen’s father, the Marshall, is standing on a wooden stool, with his neck in a noose. He’s still standing on the stool when Ellen fires the gun. But, in the very next view of the outlaws riding out, they ride past the Marshall and the stool is gone.

∙ CAUTION: May Contain Spoilers! At the beginning of the fight between Ellen and Herrod, Herrod’s shadow is to his right. But, after he’s been shot the first time, Herrod looks down and his shadow is in front of him (enough to where he can see the bullet hole in his chest).

∙ CAUTION: May Contain Spoilers! After Herrod is shot the second time, he’s thrown through the air, flips and hits the ground. There is paper money in his right hand. But when Ellen approaches him, Herrod’s hand is empty. The money is back a few moments later after she holsters her gun.

∙ CAUTION: May Contain Spoilers! When Herrod asks Ellen who she is, she throws her father’s badge to him. The badge lands in front of Herrod’s feet. When Ellen picks up the badge after she shoots Herrod the second time (where he’s thrown back and flips over), she picks up the badge near his right leg (a few feet back from where it originally landed).

“The Quick and the Dead” (1995) stars Sharon Stone, Gene Hackman, Russell Crowe, Leonardo DiCaprio, Tobin Bell, Gary Sinise and Lance Henriksen. It runs 107 minutes and is rated R for western violence.
