CyberChase -- Entertaining Education
Guest Author - Paula S.W. Laurita

The CyberChase website is as fun and educational as the series. The site is an asset to teachers and students alike.

Cyberchase is a fun, interactive series that airs on PBS. This award winning television series features the CyberSquad--a team of three incredible library patrons. Jackie, Inez, and Matt get transported into cyberspace by a library computer.

In this animated computer world our intrepid heroes must combat the villianous Hacker and his henchbots Buzz and Delete. Hacker's goal is to dominate cyberspace. Our heroes must combat Hacker by using logic and (gasp!) math.

Oh, how I wish math had been this fun when I was a child. The challenges are interesting and clever, involving mountains, money, caves, puzzles, pyramids, and real world uses for mathematics. Each episode focuses on a math concept identified by the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics (NCTM).

CyberChase also features an interactive website. The website features lessons and activities, on-line web based activities and much more. The site design is easy to navigate and children and educators will enjoy utilizing the site. The activities will make an excellent center activity or safe site for children to "play at." Don't worry, the kids won't even know they're learning math while their having a great time. Don't miss the Inventor's Workshop.

The CyberChase DVDs will make a valuable addition to your library collection providing excellent math resources geared toward 8 - 12 year olds. Teachers, homeschoolers, parents, and students will cheer this selection.
