The year was 1994. I’d embarked upon a journey that would transform my life forever. A trail of torment was behind me. A path of triumph awaited my arrival. I searched for the truth of my existence and the keys to my freedom. I longed to find my answers in the words of someone else’s experiences. I found myself submerged in books.
Among the readings of my favorite writers were books by: Maya Angelou, Toni Morrison, Zora Neale Hurston, Langston Hughes, Richard Wright, and Paul Laurence Dunbar. That year, the writings of T.D. Jakes were added to my Library. Over the past 17 years, I’ve read 24 books written by Bishop Jakes. The words conveyed on paper by this incredible writer have consistently transformed my thinking, encouraged my spirit, and changed my life.
True writers have the ability to pen instant classics. Literary works which remain relevant throughout the years. T.D. Jakes has quite a few titles that are just as powerful today as they were the day they were released. Uplifting, spiritual, enlightening truths needed to facilitate complete healing. His writing ushered in a level of transparency without shame that had rarely been extended from the Pulpit to the Pews.
Time won’t permit me to mention every title I’ve read, but I highly recommend three of my favorite books written by Bishop T. D. Jakes. If you read these books with an open spirit and a true desire to see the truth of your own existence and experience freedom from the pain of the past, you’ll finish these books and proudly proclaim you are “Naked, Loosed & Blessed.”
I’ve read “Woman Thou Art Loosed” three times. I’ll never forget how I felt when I read the words, “The word you are hearing today is able to heal your yesterday!” This book offers hope to those who wonder if healing from past hurts is truly possible. By the time I finished “Naked and not Ashamed” I understood that transparency before God could result in immeasurable freedom, because God longs to heal what we are afraid to reveal. When I looked at the back cover and read, “The way to this success is full of twists and turns, yet you can make it through to incredible blessing in your life. The only question left will be, Can You Stand to be Blessed?” I knew I "could stand" and "be blessed."
I had no idea at the time what a powerful influence T.D. Jakes writing would have upon my own personal writing style. My genre is spiritual, self-help, nonfiction books. I write from a place of transparency because I understand that the truth makes us free. Allow me to take the slogan from my own Publishing Company which seems to appropriately apply to the writings of this great man. Over the past 20 years, this man has written “A Collection of Priceless, Precious, Powerful Words.” Words that transcend the ink used to express them and enrich the lives of all who read them.
