Garden Decor

How do we create a great garden? Ideally, it should start with a good landscape plan showing all the plants, garden furnishings, art, and other garden décor.

Plants are only one element in the landscape. The other non-plant details should be compatible with the plants. Use this approach to create satisfying gardens that meet the family’s needs.

Little things count a lot. They can make such a difference when it comes to garden décor. Functional items need not be plain. Take ordinary concrete steps, for instance. Dress them up. Do-it-yourself types can use exterior paints to make the concrete look like bluestone.

Decorate the mailbox. Whether it’s a wall mount type or a standard one on a pole out by the curb, there’s a way to accessorize it. Use stencils to paint decorative scenes, such as wildflowers, birds, or butterflies. Scenic mailbox wraps are also available. Another option is to select a planter that is compatible with your mailbox. Some of these rest on top of the mailbox post, while others are located on the ground around the base of the post.

For patio lighting, many of us still use candles. For a classic look choose attractive topiary candle pots. These terra cotta pots are painted white, and are decorated with hand-painted topiaries, such as bunnies, birds, and globe-shaped plants.

For a coordinated look, use the matching terra cotta pots for plants. These topiary pots come with saucers. They would look great on patios and decks.

Depending on the garden’s needs, garden ornaments can range in style from the classic to folk art. Artistic types can create their own whimsical garden art by painting the objects in eye-catching colors.

Make your own twig furniture. Then choose a shady spot and create a pleasing seating arrangement with these treasures. Add a colorful container of shade-loving flowers and some garden art. Nestled in the shade of tall trees you’ll have a perfect place to relax.

If your garden seems dreary, maybe the answer is attention to the outdoor décor.

Good taste never goes out of style. When you choose traditional-style garden ornaments you can’t go wrong. A timeless example is a sundial. These are classic enough to fit into any garden style.

No two gardens are alike. The difference lies in the details and how we choose to use and decorate the space. This is what outdoor décor is all about.
