Cuts By The Green, Hair Salon

When I travel I look for Hair Salons with personality and atmosphere, something that sets them apart. I love small salons because of the opportunity to develope close personal relationships with clients. All salons afford the opportunity for this type of closeness but perhaps it’s easiest in the small salon. Hairdressers and clients become one family or group of friends gathering in what is often one small room. I found such a salon near Lake James in Angola, IN. Cuts By The Green is an inviting salon surrounded by flower gardens and located on the #1 tee of the Lake James Golf Course.

When her husband entered into ownership of the golf course, hairdresser Cheri Vanette saw possibilities in a small building on the property.

Built in 1934, the building served as the caddy shack until 1964, selling food and golf items. When a Country Club was built on the golf course, the shack became a small snack bar for a few years. After that closed, it sat empty, except for an occasional small animal taking up residence, until the year 2000 when Cheri breathed new life into the location.

Word spread fast, when Cheri opened for business with many of her male clientele coming directly from the #1 tee. Now Cheri has a busy family oriented business.

The former caddy shack has ample space for her styling chair, shampoo bowl, stationary dryer, comfy settee and desk. Through large picture windows, clients can relax and enjoy a view of the beautiful lush greens of Lake James Golf Course.

Cheri says, "I consider myself very lucky to be in this location. I do enjoy to golf, and the view is so beautiful. I am where I love to be. Being able to enjoy each changing season is truly a blessing. Knowing the history of this small building and knowing so many people passed through it over the years, I feel gives it a special life of its own."

When I asked her about her favorite part of the business, Cheri revealed her love of people.
"To be able to be creative. I feel I change people on the outside and in turn it will make them feel good on the inside. I also absolutely love the interaction with the people. For every hairstyle, wedding style, first haircut, etc. becomes a lasting memory. I am very lucky and the clientele I have are great, I am now watching my young clients graduate, and marry. To have the ability to be a part of it is wonderful."

If you are vacationing at the lakes of Steuben County, IN or playing a round of golf, be sure to stop in and visit Cheri. Tell her you heard about her on the web!

And Cheri now carries the LC Legacy Hair Care Line!
