Holiday Dress to Fit 15 to 18 inch Cloth or Fabric Dolls
Guest Author - Susan Kramer

This is a festive Christmas or holiday dress pattern for your 15-inch to 18-inch dolls, such as Raggedy Ann and Madeline. For clothes to fit 18-inch American Girl and other historical dolls click here.

Dress pattern pieces are here. Sewing instructions are here.

A notable difference for this Christmas dress from the generic pattern is the white fabric or lace insert in the skirt front.

Here’s how to make the front skirt insert

For the main colored section of skirt cut a piece of fabric 30” (75cm) wide by 10” (25cm) long. (Note: Adjust the skirt length for your particular doll.)

For the white fabric inset cut a piece of fabric the same length as the skirt and 12” (30cm) wide.

Stitch the sides of the white fabric to the sides of the colored fabric along the 2 seams from the waist to the hemline on the 2 ends of the colored fabric.

This forms a tube. Now, with skirt turned right side out bring each of the 2 edges of colored fabric to meet at center front so the white fabric is folded behind like a pleat on each side of the center front seam. See the photos for guidance.

Baste the white fabric to the colored fabric at the waistline. Now you can see you have a ‘kick pleat’ in front.

Gather the waist seam to match the bodice lower edge and sew skirt to bodice keeping pleat at center front.

For a festive touch use 6” (15cm) lengths of 6-strand embroidery thread to sew a knot attaching the bottom of the collar to the skirt waistband.

Made in a dressy fabric or Christmas colors you have just the dress for the holidays that will really look nice on your doll!
