Silk Parachutes
Silk parachutes? Can you imagine 65 square yards of silk for $14.95? And, $1 for shipping? Times have certainly changed. I can imagine a group of ladies chipping in their pin money to buy this bulk amount of silk fabric.
Also, I think this is genius on the part of the parachute manufacturer. Did they produce a massive run in support of the war effort and then have a glut of parachutes left when the war was over?

Double Decker Workbox Kit
Oh, this ad is funny. They obviously had to pay by the letter because there are some gaps that you have to mentally fill. “Gift to delight every woman” just kills me. How much could one letter have cost? All we need is the letter “A” to make that one statement sound so much better.
I wonder how many mothers received a Double-Decker Workbox Kit on their special day that year.
The combination of fonts, sizes, punctuation and capitalization is almost painful to read. It is almost as if the vendor just didn’t know which feature to emphasize the most. I like how the bottom unit allows for tidy storing and not just quick finding, but QUICK finding. And, bam, it is Sturdy! too.
Like I said, funny!
I hope you have enjoyed reading these ads from another generation. I have more that I have scanned so I will create additional segments to this series as I find the time. Let me know if you want to see the girdle; it is hysterical.
