Single Review - Weezer “Pork And Beans” It's been nearly three years since Weezer's last studio album release that brought us songs like “Beverly Hills” and “Perfect Situation”. During the hiatus, Weezer front man Rivers Cuomo stayed busy by releasing an album on his own filled with home studio recordings that he apparently recorded “Alone”, which is also the title of the album. But now, for all you Weezer fans, Weezer is back! The latest single from the quartet is titled “Pork And Beans”. Press play and the song starts out like the Weezer you know and love. A clean sound, simple drum beat a catchy guitar riff and a melody from Rivers that is slow, smooth and easy to sing a long too. You immediately like the song off the opening 30 seconds and the first verse. Soon you are lead into a rock chorus where everyone has stepped up the energy and you are introduced to the lyrics that firmly cry out “I'm-ma do the things that I wanna do, I ain't got a thing to prove to you.” Weezer's “Pork and Beans” is an anthem about not changing for the masses. It is written in remark to the changing music landscape that is demanding more danceable beats and more club going hits and even directly references mega producer Timbaland, who is most recently famous for producing hits for Justin Timberlake, Nelly Furtado and the latest from Flo Rida and Madonna. “Pork and Beans” continues on to proudly sing “I'm fine and dandy with the me inside ... I don't give a hoot about what you think” followed by a whole chorus of “I don't care's”. Weezer has perfected the formula of the simple and pure rock song, constantly releasing songs that get stuck in your head for days (“Woo e woo I look just like Buddy Holly” anybody?). But the band is experts at still keeping the sound fresh and almost timeless. Raw energy and raw sounds. Let's not forget “Buddy Holly” was released in 1994, and you still can't forget it! “Pork and Beans” is the first single, which is available digitally now, from their upcoming self titled album, their sixth album, which is being referred to as “The Red Album” (because of the red cover art of course) and is due to hit stores on June 24, 2008. If “Pork and Beans” is any indicator of what to expect on the album, you can expect classic, fun and catchy Weezer with hits sure to please. Listen to the song streaming for free from the band's official website www.weezer.com now. All I can say is that I am crossing my fingers that this one gets added to the Rock Band or Guitar Hero set list also! | Related Articles | Previous Features | Site MapContent copyright © 2008 by Bree Nguyen.
