A Balloon Magic Trick You Can Do

Guest Author - Dennis Regling

This is an easy version of the commercial magic trick. Blow up a party balloon and with a small pin, you puncture the balloon... but it doesn't pop!

The secret? Blow up a round party balloon. It should be about 12" in diameter. Tie it off. You also need a straight pin, a diaper pin, or a hat pin. I get extra laughs by using the diaper pin.

Take some clear tape (Scotch Brand, etc.) and on the side opposite the knot, place a small square of tape on the nipple or thick part of the balloon. You might also put a piece on the side of the balloon.

Holding the balloon in one hand and the pin in the other push the pin into the balloon through the piece of tape. You will find that the balloon will not pop as the tape keeps the air in.

You may want to find the longest type of pin you can, but make sure it's not too thick.

Feeling adventurous? Try sticking the pin into the nipple of the balloon without the tape. The trick works this way too and is even more amazing. I like to have a volunteer inspect and inflate the balloon, that way they know it is not gimmicked.

This is a version of the "professional" effect that uses no tape and a 14"-long needle! If you are interested in that version, contact a magic dealer and ask for the "Needle Thru Balloon" trick.

Are you a teacher? I use this trick to illustrate Newton's Third Law of Motion that for every action there is an equal and opposite reaction. The pin going in the balloon being the action. The expected reaction? A *>POP<* !!! But it doesn't work! Try again, and it does.

This is a funny way to make this lesson memorable.

Are you a Sunday School teacher? Use this to illustrate the keeping power of Jesus Christ. How he protects from the Devil's arrows and how easy it is for Satan to get you if you are not walking in the Lord's protection. For more Gospel magic, go to www.MagicMinistry.com

Have fun, and be sure to check back for new tricks and articles.

(Please Note: Children should be seek adult supervision before attempting this trick.)
