David Archuleta and Miley Cyrus Rock Macy’s
The Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade is something we all look forward to watching each and every year – an annual tradition that graces our television screens with larger than life balloons, theatrics, music, and more. Every year some of pop music’s top artists share in the turkey day celebration by performing with a backdrop of balloons and holiday pageantry in the parade, and this year is definitely not an exception. Fans of pop music will have plenty of reasons to tune in to the Macy’s Thanksgiving Parade this year, and two of the reasons go by the names David Archuleta and Miley Cyrus.

David Archuleta, the 17-year-old American Idol season seven runner-up, released his self-titled debut album on November 11th, 2008 which debuted at No. 2 on the Billboard 200 album sales chart. The album’s first single “Crush” is an up-tempo pop song with age appropriate lyrics, makes you wanna sway your hips beat, beautiful vocals, and an allover fun radio friendly vibe. While many fans expected David to step out with a ballad, his first single “Crush” has allowed him to stretch his pop music muscles and show that he isn’t a one trick ‘ballads only’ pony. At 17 he is young, energetic, and excited about the future and “Crush” gives that first impression to pop music fans.

Miley Cyrus needs no introduction these days. The star of Disney’s “Hannah Montana” has created a successful music career for herself and has amassed a large fan following in addition to her success with the Disney franchise. Her second studio album Breakout was release June 22nd, 2008 debuting at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 album sales chart, and subsequently was certified Platinum by the RIAA on October 17th, 2008. The album’s songs, which include “7 Things” and “Fly On The Wall”, are catchy, danceable, and fun. While her vocals may never blow anyone away, and most of her songs are considered by many to be disposable pop, Miley has managed to fill a niche and has become a favorite among pop music fans. At the end of a long day sometimes all you need is a little Miley. Most recently Miley lent her voice to the Disney animated movie Bolt where she co-stars as "Penny" alongside John Travolta’s character "Bolt". Both Travolta and Cyrus came together on the movie's soundtrack to record the beautiful duet "I Thought I Lost You".

You can catch both David and Miley performing at the 82nd Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade on November 27th, 2008. If you can’t be in New York City to watch the celebration parade down Broadway in person, you can still be a part of the magic by tuning in to NBC where the parade will be hosted by Matt Lauer, Meredith Vieira, and Al Roker of NBC’s “Today”. Show up or tune in, and let me know what you think of all the performances!
