In late 2008 pop music fans were captivated by the hit song “T-Shirt” – the debut single from Shontelle, a soulful 23-year-old from Barbados whose star has been quick rising in the Top 40 mainstream arena; and to think she was going to pursue a career as an entertainment lawyer. The song spent several months sitting pretty on the charts (peaking at No. 36 on the Billboard Hot 100), making it quite obvious that this girl was going to stick around for a while; and stick around she did. With her latest single “Stuck With Each Other”, Shontelle is proving to be a fierce contender to top the charts in 2009 – a year which is already shaping up to be a solid and exciting year for pop music.
Shontelle teamed up with Akon to record the duet titled “Stuck With Each Other”, the latest single from her debut album Shontelligence – in stores now. The single, written by Diane Warren and produced by Rodney Jerkins, is romantic and fun with a beat that makes you want to shimmy in your chair. The catchy lyrics are top-notch, but then again what else would one expect from a Diane Warren song? Shontelle’s vocals are decadent, a smooth combination of rich and sweet, complimented by Akon’s unmistakable sound. The two artists prove to be a beautiful musical match on this collaboration, and one can only hope that we will see them team up again in the near future.
“Stuck With Each Other” will be featured in the upcoming Disney film from Jerry Bruckheimer “Confessions of a Shopaholic” which stars Isla Fischer and Hugh Dancy – in theaters on February 13th. In the meantime Shontelle has most recently been promoting her debut album Shontelligence in the United Kingdom and Ireland as the opening act for New Kids on the Block.
Check out “Stuck With Each Other” for yourself by visiting Shontelle’s MySpace, and let me know what you think of the duet. The music video for “Stuck With Each Other” was shot in Los Angeles a few weeks ago, so keep your eyes peeled for its debut.
