2004 - Elton John, The Rocket Man Rocks Radio City on Bravo

Sir Elton John is leading his band and being backed up by two orchestras as they put on a show for people of all ages and only Bravo has this special concert showing four times during the next month, starting November 27th.

Sir Elton John (Reginald Kenneth Dwight) won a scholarship to the Royal Academy of Music at the age of 11, but dropped out to play rock and roll. He played with several bands since his first one, Bluesology. Unsuccessfully, he tried out as the lead singer for King Crimson and Gentle Giant. After teaming up with Bernie Taupin he chose his new name from the Elton Dean and John Bawdry. Elton and Bernie went on to write songs for Lulu ’To Sir With Love’(singer and actress) and Roger Cook (lyricist and performer).

In the 1970s he became a successful pop artist, with a flashy stage performance who started wearing glasses to copy one of his idols, the late Buddy Holly.

Sir Elton John formed the Elton John AIDS Foundation, one of the world’s largest non profit organizations. Queen Elizabeth knighted Elton John for his contribution to music and his AID charities’ work in 1998.

Sir Elton John has been friends and preformed with a large range of musicians such as: Freddie Mercury, Rod Stewart, Dusty Springfield, John Lennon, Stevie Wonder, Millie Jackson, Jennifer Rush, Aretha Franklin, Eric Clapton, George Michael, Kiki Dee, Dionne Warwick, Gladys Knight, RuPaul, France Gall, and Luciano Pavarotti.

Sir Elton John has collaborated with Tim Rice on four projects. They worked together on two animated films, ‘The Lion King’ and ‘The Road to El Dorado’ and two Broadway stage productions ‘Aida’ and the stage version of ‘The Lion King’

Sir Elton John has been the recipient of several awards: his knighting by Queen Elizabeth, Kennedy Center Honors kn 2004, He was also nominated for a Laurence Oliver Theatre Award in 2000 for The Lion King for Best New Musical.


Sir Elton John has recorded songs that were a tribute to: ‘Candle in the Wind’ for Diana Princess of Wales, ‘Philadelphia Freedom’ for Billie Jean King(tennis star), ‘Song for Guy: for Guy Burchett(a Rocket Records messenger), ‘Empty Garden’ for John Lennon(Beatles), ‘You Can Make History and (Young Again)’ for Gianni Versace(designer).
