Hong Kong Local Travel - Star Ferry
Guest Author - Taisha Turner

The best way to travel Victoria Harbour (Harbor) is on the Star Ferry. The Star Ferry has been in operation for more than a hundred years. The public transportation is the favorite way to travel from Hong Kong Island to Kowloon.

The public transportation takes four routes. Two ferries leave from the central pier traveling to Tsim Sha Tsui and Hung Hom and the other ferries leave from Wan Chai to the same destinations.

The Star Ferry fleet consists of twelve diesel-electric vessels. The upper deck is air-conditioned. Travel on the lower decks allow the passengers to feel the air flow about them and hear the Victoria Harbour sounds.

The Star Ferry runs frequently and timely. The fare varies depending on the destination. It is a good bargain because even the longest route is under US$1.00 with discounts for children and seniors. The Octopus Card is valid for travel on the Star Ferry.
