Cedar Point Amusement Park - Sandusky Ohio

Guest Author - Sarah Roop

Cedar Point Amusement Park, located in Sandusky Ohio has long been known as one of the top amusement parks in the world. It started modestly as a beer garden with a dance floor in 1870. Then the first ride was added in 1892, the Switchback Railway, a death defying roller coaster that stood 25 feet tall and moved along at the incredible speed of ten miles per hour. This ride was not for the faint of heart. With the popularity of this ride, though, the future of Cedar point was clear. Today there are over 30 roller coasters and thrill rides, as well as countless activities for kids, and non-thrill seekers.

Cedar Point has on site lodging available for those wishing to enjoy the park for more than one day, with 5 hotels and a campground. For those of you who want to enjoy this area in the off season, they even have an indoor waterpark which is open year round. There is also a marina for those who wish to sail into the park.

There are several restaurants located inside the park as well as drink, ice cream, and snack carts. You will not go hungry or thirsty while you are there, there are several different themed midways, and activities for all ages. There are also several shows every day for those looking for an entertaining way to get off your feet for a while.

Cedar Point, however, is best known for its world-class roller coasters and thrill rides, of which they are continually building more each year. If you are a thrill seeker you cannot go wrong with Cedar Point. From the smaller roller coasters, such as the “Gemini Jr.” to the “Top Thrill Dragster”, which is one of the tallest and fastest roller coasters in the world, you will find just your speed. As far as thrill rides go, you have everything from the familiar orange and black “Monster” of midways across the globe, to the “Power Tower”, a ride which takes you up 240 feet into the air, not only to drop you, but to actually force you down faster than free fall.

Cedar Point also has a water park “Soak City” if you would like to take a break from the heat and cool off. This is a complete water park with everything from a lazy river to 60 foot slides and a 76 foot tall inner tube ride. For the kids there is a splash park to play in and enjoy.

If you are looking for a wonderful time for the entire family, or with a group of friends, Cedar Point is the place to go, whether for just a day or for a short getaway. You cannot go wrong with thrills, entertainment, food, and fun all packed into this one location.
