Guiding Light History

Guest Author - Jessica Steinmetz

The soap opera Guiding Light has been around since January 25, 1937. Back then, it was first broadcast on radio. At the time it was broadcast out of Chicago, Illinois. The first sponsor on the show was Proctor & Gamble.

Many generations have watched the citizens of Springfield. The World War II generation got involved in these stories. In 1946, the show moved out to Hollywood and upgraded their production abilities. In 1952 the show was live on TV, although running for only 15 minutes at a time.

If you haven't watched Guiding Light before, give it a try! I was hooked right away.
