Write a Search Engine Friendly Blog Post Title
Your blog post title is important to bringing in traffic and should be enticing, with heavy emphasis on target keyword phrases related to your article. That means considering what the internet user is typing into the search engine to find an article on your topic.
Internet users type in questions or short and long keyword phrases to find what they are looking for. If they are looking for information on how to build a garden shed, they are likely to type in any of the following phrases:
“Garden shed plans”
“Garden shed blueprints”
“Build a garden shed”
Do a search on your own to see what titles are returned via the different search engines. Is your title in line with similar article titles?
In addition to relevant keyword phrases, an article descriptor further identifying the type of your article helps a user quickly determine if they found what they are looking for before they click on your title in their search results.
Article types include:
- an how to article, which describes how to do something. Use the keywords “How to” or “Tutorial” in the title for this article type.
- a review article, which is your opinion on a product you’ve used, a book you’ve read, a movie you’ve seen, or a business service you’ve used. Use the keyword “Review” in your title and the type of product or service reviewed, “book” or “restaurant”.
- a list article, which is a compilation of tips or advice you are sharing with your readers. Include the keyword “list”, “tips” or “best”.
- a recipe, which is another how to article could include either the keyword “recipe” or “how to”. Consider if the instruction is really a recipe or a cooking technique to apply the appropriate keywords.
Keeping article types in mind while doing article research increases the number of article ideas for future articles. Research for one article and write a series of articles in your blog niche. For example great article titles related to garden sheds might be:

Unfortunately search engines do not appreciate humorous blog titles. You may have a very smart and sharp-witted title that a reader might appreciate, but the search engine robots will most likely index your article on an unrelated keyword. Do not write a long title to include both keywords and a funny sub-title. Only a certain number of words are read by the search engines and it is recommended to keep your blog post titles short and descriptive. So the title Keep Out of the Dog House Man, Build Your Wife’s Garden Shed Today might bring readers to you looking for plans to build a dog house, or a blog related to marriage and relationships.
Best advice in the blogosphere is keep titles short and keep them descriptive to the post content.
