Haunted Mansion

Haunted Mansion
It’s not just an amusement park ride anymore when Jim Evers, an overly anxious real estate agent, has the opportunity of a lifetime to sell an unusual mansion owned by Master Gracey. In his eagerness to use this as a stepping stone to advance his career, he unwittingly puts his life and the lives of his wife, Sara, and children, Megan and Michael in danger. Will the family survive the mansion of ghosts and singing statues? Here are a few movie mistakes to look for while watching “The Haunted Mansion”.

∙ At the beginning of the movie, Jim misses a dinner date with Sara on their anniversary. Jim tries to make it up to her by giving her a teddy bear and an expensive watch. The teddy bear is originally wearing the watch on its left “paw”. Jim takes the watch off and puts it on Sara. But in the side view, when Jim shuts the front door, the watch is back in its original position, on the bear.

∙ The family arrives at Gracey’s mansion when it suddenly starts to storm. The rain can be seen on the shoulders of Jim’s suit when they’re waiting to go inside and even when they go in. But when they walk into the dining room, his shoulders are completely dry.

∙ Ezra is talking to Megan and Michael in the attic when Emma arrives with a tray of cookies. Emma is holding the tray but when she says “It is their concern. They’re involved.” the far view shows the tray is suddenly gone. The next time the tray of cookies is shown is when Ramsley picks it up off the stand a few moments later.

∙ Jim has to go inside the mausoleum to retrieve the key. There are two statues holding torches on either side of the door. Jim grabs the torch from the statue that’s standing to his right. Later, Jim and Megan are trying to escape from the mausoleum. An outside view of Michael as the spiders start to crawl across the door shows the torch is back in the statue’s hands. When Jim and Megan finally escape, the torch is once again missing.

∙ CAUTION: May Contain Spoilers! After Gracey discovers the truth about Elizabeth and Ramsley has been vanquished, Sara collapses. Jim is holding her. The close-up view shows her head is slumped toward her left shoulder, away from Jim. But the next overhead view shows her head facing upwards and toward him.

“The Haunted Mansion” (2003) stars Eddie Murphy, Terence Stamp, Nathaniel Parker, Marsha Thomason, Jennifer Tilly and Wallace Shawn. It runs 88 minutes and is rated PG for frightening images, thematic elements and language.
