Fred Claus

Fred Claus
Fred is cynical about everything having to do with Christmas and especially Santa Claus who happens to be his younger brother, Nicholas. When Fred winds up in a sticky situation, Nicholas is the only one who he can turn to. In exchange for his brother’s help, Fred agrees to take a job at the North Pole during the Christmas season but things take a bad turn with the arrival of Clyde Northcutt who plans to shut down the operations. Here are a few movie mistakes to look for while watching “Fred Claus”.

∙ When Samuel arrives at Fred’s apartment for the first time, he climbs onto the couch. The blanket over the back covers half of the couch to the edge of the cushion next to Fred. In the close-up views of Samuel, the blanket is pulled back, exposing the leather. But in the close-up of Fred when he asks if he wants a glass of milk, the blanket is covering the back again. It cuts back to Sam and it’s pulled back again. The blanket is then pulled back and forth throughout the rest of the scene.

∙ Fred is wrapped and tied up for his intervention. When they set him in the chair, he loosens the wrapping but there is still tape with yellow bits of paper stuck to the pocket on the left side of his shirt. In the close-up, when Fred says “I’m doing terrific”, the tape is heard being torn off his shirt and it’s gone in the next close-up of him. But, in the close-up of him when he says “different”, the tape is back. It’s gone again a few moments later.

∙ CAUTION: May Contain Spoilers! Nicholas is in bed holding his pink slip. Fred is talking to him and when Fred says “you know, Nick…”, he’s holding the pink slip in his right hand. It cuts to a quick close-up of Fred and then back to Nicholas and the pink slip is now gone.

“Fred Claus” (2007) stars Vince Vaughn, Paul Giamatti, John Michael Higgins, Miranda Richardson, Rachel Weisz, Kathy Bates, Kevin Spacey, Elizabeth Banks and Ludacris. It runs 116 minutes and is rated PG for mild language and some rude humor.
