My Big Fat Greek Wedding

My Big Fat Greek Wedding
Toula is a 30-something woman who works in her Greek family’s restaurant. Determined to find something more in life, she enrolls in college, gets a new job, and to the horror of her family, begins to date Ian Miller, a schoolteacher who isn’t Greek. When the two decide to get married, the pair soon learns that they’re not only marrying each other, but the families are along for the ride as well. Here are a few movie mistakes to look for while watching “My Big Fat Greek Wedding”.

∙ A young Toula is riding in the car with her dad. Her two friends are in the backseat. In the front view, when Gus says to give him a word, he’s wearing dark gloves. It cuts to a closer view when he says “how about arachnophobia” and he’s not wearing his gloves. When one of the girls says “how about the word kimono”, he’s wearing the glove again.

∙ When Gus drops the girls off at school, he calls out to Toula and, in the front view of him, when he tells her to be proud she’s Greek, his left hand is pointing out the window and the glass is down far enough where only an inch or two is showing. It cuts to a quick view of Toula and then back to Gus. His arm is still out the window but there is more of the glass showing in the window.

∙ At college, Toula sits at the table with the other girls. In the rear view of her, Toula places her lunch bag and book on the table in front of her. The scene cuts to a front view and in the close-up, when she sits down, Toula places the lunch bag on the table again.

∙ Toula and Ian are walking across the bridge. Toula’s purse is dangling from her left hand. It cuts to a close-up when they stop and when Toula takes hold of the railing, her purse is now in her right hand.

∙ Ian and Toula are on the bed when he asks her to marry him. In the close-ups of Toula, her left hand can be seen on her stomach. But in the close-ups of Ian, right before he proposes, her left hand is caressing his face and hair.

∙ Toula is talking to Ian at school. When she asks “why do you love me?”, her right arm is over Ian’s shoulder. It cuts to a close-up of Ian when he says, “you’re a part of your family”, and her right hand is against his chest. The scene cuts back to the close-up of Toula and her right arm is back over his shoulder.

∙ When Cousin Nikki comes in with the earrings, a right side view of Toula shows she’s holding the wedding invitation. It cuts to a front view and she sets the invitation down and takes the earrings from her mother. The scene cuts back to the right side view and she’s holding the invitation again.

“My Big Fat Greek Wedding” (2002) stars Nia Vardalos, John Corbett, Michael Constantine, Lainie Kazan, Andrea Martin, Joey Fatone, and Gia Carides. It runs 95 minutes and is rated PG-13 for sensuality and language.
