Steamed Shrimp with Mixed Vegetables Recipe
Fresh steamed shrimp are tossed with broccoli, water chestnuts, and snow peas and then topped with a delicious white sauce. This makes the perfect meal when served over white steamed rice.

The vegetables and shrimp in this recipe are steamed separately since it takes less time to cook the shrimp. You can also use any vegetables of your choice, however if you choose soft vegetables such as zuchinni or squash, they should be steamed separately with less time than the harder crisp vegetables.

1 lb fresh medium shrimp
¼ tsp garlic salt
1 small broccoli crown
1 can sliced water chestnuts
6oz snow peas

Sauce Ingredients:
1 cup chicken stock,
2 tbsp Shao hsing wine
1 tbsp of soy sauce
½ tbsp of white sugar
2 tsp cornstarch

  1. Cut the broccoli crown into small florets and rinse them under cold running water. Let them dry in a colander.

  2. Open and drain the can of water chestnuts.

  3. Rinse the snow peas under cold running water and dry them in a colander.

  4. Next steam the vegetables by placing them in a single layer in a steamer tray. Depending on the size of your steamer you may need to cook these in batches. Steam the vegetables for 10 minutes.

  5. Once the vegetables are cooked, or if you have a separate steamer if available, place the shrimp in a single layer and steam them for 3 minutes, or just until they turn pink.

  6. When both the vegetables and the shrimp are cooked, place them in a large serving dish and toss to combine.

  7. Then in a medium pot mix all of the sauce ingredients together. Heat this mixture on high constantly stirring, until it slightly thickens. Then remove it from the heat and pour it over the shrimp and vegetables stirring to mix it in thoroughly. Then it is ready to be served. This makes the perfect meal served over white steamed rice. Makes 3 to 4 servings of steamed shrimp with mixed vegetables.
