A Streetcar Named Desire

A Streetcar Named Desire
Blanche DuBois tries to leave her troubled past behind and moves in with her sister, Stella, in New Orleans. The reunion doesn’t go smoothly when Blanche meets Stella’s brutish husband, Stanley. While Blanche develops a romance with Stanley’s card playing buddy, Mitch, and Stella reveals she’s pregnant, the relationship between Blanche and Stanley becomes more volatile. Here are a few movie mistakes to look for while watching “A Streetcar Named Desire”.

· Blanche is talking to Mitch. In the side view, Blanche says, “I believe you’re right about that”, and she moves her left hand to the side of her face. It cuts to a close-up and her hand is down, holding her pearl necklace. A few moments later, Blanche is telling Mitch she’s an English instructor, and the side view shows her right and left hand are touching each other. It cuts to a close-up when Blanche says, “How very right you are”, and her right hand is farther down, near the middle part of her arm.

· Stanley is angry and tosses the radio through the window, shattering the entire pane of glass. Stella tells everyone to get out. Stanley yells, “hey”, and walks away from the window which now has glass around the edges

· Stanley walks up to Blanche and tells her he has “a little birthday remembrance” for her. In the wider view of him, Blanche and Stella, Stanley has his wallet and starts to look through it. It cuts to a close-up and he already has the envelope with the bus ticket pulled out.

· Mitch embraces Blanche during their argument. In the side view as they kiss, Blanche’s left arm is behind his neck while her right arm is folded toward her. It cuts to a close-up view and both of Blanche’s arms are behind Mitch’s neck.

“A Streetcar Named Desire” (1951) stars Vivien Leigh, Marlon Brando, Kim Hunter, Karl Malden, Rudy Bond, Nick Dennis and Peg Hillias. It runs 122 minutes and is rated PG for thematic elements.
