The Moon Witch

Guest Author - Elizabeth Darrach

Hello, and welcome back! Mother Nature is apparently back to not liking baseball, because our first official games are tonight and the temperature has dropped about twenty degrees from last weekend, and I haven't seen the sun all day. Perhaps She'll change Her mind before game time. Hopefully.

I am nearly finished with my stack of May releases already--it's all those Little League practices we've had this month--and I've got three more to share with you all this time out, starting with Angela Knight's Master of the Moon
Master of the Moon
(Berkley). Loosely related to her Arthurian vampires, this one has werewolf Diana London taking on the female vampire trying to kill the immortal Llyr Galatyn, king in his Sidhe realm. Add in the fact that Diana is in her 'Burning Moon', you should expect plenty of sex in this one, though not necessarily great conversation. The bad guy in this one is rather like a cartoon villain, one-dimensional and just too bad to be believed, which makes the rest of the story unconvincing, too. I always hold out hope that an author whose work I haven't liked previously will surprise me, but this one hasn't changed my mind. It's earned only two of Cupid's five arrows.

Katie MacAlister's Fire Me up: An Aisling Grey, Guardian Novel
Fire Me up: An Aisling Grey, Guardian Novel
(Signet Eclipse) is next, with the returning Aisling Grey and her dragon lover Drake, this time in Budapest for a convention of otherworldly creatures. Not my cup of tea, with the try-too-hard wisecracks and the too-easy way Aisling and Drake end up together and then split apart.

Finally, we have Linda Winstead Jones's next in the Fyne Sisters series, The Moon Witch
The Moon Witch
(Berkley). Juliet's gift of sight does her no good when she tries to divine her own future, but when she and her sister are kidnapped by the same emperor from sister Sophie's tale, her life takes a turn she couldn't have expected. Ryn of the Darigol Clan kidnaps her from the soldiers set to deliver her to the emperor, and Juliet gets a bigger shock. If you haven't read the first book in the series, you should before diving into this one, or you'll never be able to keep everyone straight. I enjoyed this one, though not as much as the first. I have high hopes for the third, however, so I already have it on my December to-buy list. Juliet and Ryn have much to overcome to reach their happy ending, and Ryn's difficulties are related more to mule-headedness than any real obstacles. I'm giving this one three arrows.

Until next time, happy reading!
