Natalie - A Singer to Watch out For

Don't forget to enter the contest. Click on the link to the right.

Natalie’s GOIN CRAZY single has been blasting on airwaves nationwide and earned itself a spot as #1 on Billboard’s top singles chart. After listening to her entire self-titled NATALIE CD, I’m sure there’s more hit singles to come.

Natalie is currently on a two and a half month tour with Frankie J and Baby Bash,. She was on the tour bus when I interviewed her.

SHELIA: Where were you when you heard your first single, GOIN CRAZY, on the radio?
NATALIE: I was at a Taco Bell drive thru in Houston, TX with my little sister. My friends and family had asked me had I heard it and I hadn’t yet.

SHELIA: How did it make you feel?
NATALIE: I was freaking out in a good way…a beautiful feeling.

SHELIA: I read in your press kit, that you were a former Houston Rockets dancer. Did you always aspire to be a singer?
NATALIE: I was a dancer with the Rockets for seven seasons. I’ve wanted to be a lawyer, choreographer. I wanted to be in videos and go on tour with J-Lo. God has his own plans. Singing has always been in me though.

SHELIA: Have there been many comparisons to Jennifer Lopez?
NATALIE: Not really. I’ve been compared to the old school Janet…like when Janet first came out…I take it as a compliment. I’ve also been compared to Paula Abdul—only because she was a Lakers girl turned singer and I was a Rocket’s dancer and I’m now singing.

SHELIA: What makes you stand out from the other singers?
NATALIE: I’m Hispanic making R & B songs. I started off as a rapper. I would free-style. Being able to free style helps my writing and makes it different.

SHELIA: Did you write the lyrics to all of your songs and if so, what inspires you?
NATALIE: Writing is my passion…Baby Bash wrote some hooks for me. Eventually I want to write songs for other people.

SHELIA: What is the next single?
NATALIE: Energy featuring Baby Bash. It has a summer and fun feel to it.

SHELIA: Who are some of your favorite singers?
NATALIE: Janet as a performer and Beyonce Knowles as a performer and also as a writer. Especially since she’s from Houston and has opened doors for others like myself.

SHELIA: Do you choreograph your own show?
NATALIE: A trusted friend who’s a dancer collaborated with me over the phone since I was away most of the time. He choreographed the whole show.

SHELIA: What is something that your listeners would be surprised to know about you?
NATALIE: I’m a very spiritual person. I believe and put faith in God…I pray about everything in my life.

Natalie can write, dance, and sing. If she continues on the path she’s on, one day she’ll be an inspiration to other up and coming singers.

My favorite songs on the CD are Goin’ Crazy, Energy, Better Get It Right, I Can’t Wait and You’re the One. I’m sure you’ll have your own personal favorites as well.

NATALIE, the CD, hit stores on May 17, 2005.
