Katherine Heigl adopted a little girl from Korea. Megan Ryan adopted a little girl from China. Madonna adopted a son from Malawi.Angelina Jolie adopted a son from Cambodia, another son from Vietnam,and a daughter from Ethiopia.

Sometimes people think that because a child is born in the United States of America that that child’s pain, hunger, illness, illiteracy and poverty is not as severe or important as a child's suffering is from a foreign country. Even though the adoption process for American babies and children is easier and less expensive, the children who need homes will not garner the same amount of media attention for celebrity parents.

When celebrities adopt babies from foreign countries, I believe that they are doing it to enhance the life chances of an underprivileged child who would not have otherwise had the plethora of rich educational and prosperous career opportunities that are available to children who are born in the United States.

The greatest and most important asset of any nation is the psychological, physical, emotional, spiritual, and educational development of its people. When a country invests in the development of its people, it is essentially investing in the future wealth, security, and stability of its own homeland.

Ideas, inventions, creations and discoveries to cure to cure diseases, create jobs and enhance everyday life are the intellectual fruit of a nation's people. I know that America is built upon diversity and immigration of people from all over the globe; it's just that there are so many poor and destitute American children who are already citizens who will die in the child welfare system who are politically deemed as undesirable.

Can you imagine the level of self-esteem and self-worth of an American child who resides in this country when he is watching television or reading tabloids about the pride and joy of celebrities who adopt children from undeveloped countries—while they sit and wait for suitable homes? Financially speaking, it would be a lot cheaper to adopt an American child and still donate money to charities in the foreign countries to help all of their citizens.

American celebrities are some of the luckiest people in the world. They are given free goods and special privileges because of the fame that many of them have acquired from playing the role of real life heroes who never had it as good as the person who is pretending to be them. American fans will spend their last dime to support their favorite actors and entertainers. Most celebrities fan base began at home by the American people who loved them before they became internationally famous.

It would be beautiful if more celebrities like Tom Cruise and Rosie O’Donnel shared their love, wealth and prosperity with an American child who needs a home and then begin to adopt the children from other countries. The bottom line is-- why Americans are adopting children from orphanages in other countries—no other countries are adopting children from America.
