More Gas Saving Travel Ideas

Bussing and carpooling are excellent ways to save money on gas during your vacation travels. However, they’re not the only way. With a little creativity and an open mind, you might find the solutions listed here even better than another trip you planned.

Sail Away

Okay, taking a trip on the sea might not be the cheapest way to save on gasoline; however, it does translate into transport with an edge of adventure. If you are fortunate enough own your own vessel or have friends that do, you’re already set. Otherwise, you can look into travel deals with some of the sailing companies that line the MidAtlantic shore.

Take a Bike

Biking is quickly becoming the preferred method of transportation for ubanites these days as well as dwellers in more remote areas. Biking trips are the new favorite way to get around classic destinations like Europe and parts of Asia, but it can be just as satisfying to travel by bike in the United States. Many bikers travel between Maryland, Washington, DC, and Northern Virginia in this manner almost every weekend. It’s convenient to do because the areas are just a few miles apart. The Maryland, Delaware, Pennsylvannia region is another great cluster of states to explore this way.

Stay Home

Staying home may just be the most economical travel decision for most individuals, but that doesn’t mean it has to be boring. The MidAtlantic area is home to a variety of vacation sport and leisure destinations. So consider, for example, the Blue Ridge Mountains that include substantial parts of Virginia, West Virginia, and Maryland. Rather than packing up and heading out to the Rockies out West, plan your trip for the natural wonders that await in your own backyard.

Water lovers will also have more than a few great choices along the coast to enjoy a vacation seaside. From Virginia Beach to Long Island, you can find wonderful shorefront hotels and inns at prices that won’t break your budget.

There are dozens of ways to avoid the crunch of high gas prices. And you don’t have to sacrifice the pleasure of your vacation to do it. Traveling light on gas is also good for the environment. These travel alternatives also work well for families and individuals looking for vacations that do more than take you on an airplane to land in a city that looks and feels very much like the one just left.
