Womens Professional Soccer

WPS PlayOffs

The Womens Proffessional Soccer 2009 season concluded with an a thrilling curtain closer for the All-Star Game trophy between WPS All Stars and Swedish Champions Umeň IK. Madelaine Edlund put Umeň ahead in the second minute of the game, and Sofia Jakobsson increased the lead to 2-0 before goals from Tina Ellertson, Marta, and Christine Sinclair (2) won the game for the All-Stars.


New Jersey Sky Blue were crowned as Inaugural WPS Champions, beating the Regular Season Champions Los Angeles Sol in the final by 1-0 after an exciting week of play-offs.

The WPS Play-Offs had began on Saturday August 15th 2009.

After an exciting final weekend of the regular season, where Los Angeles Sol won the regular season title, the outright winner of the inaugaral Women's Professional Soccer Season was decided over just 7 days.

Washington Freedom, Sky Blue FC, Saint Louis Athletica and Los Angeles Sol, were all hoping to become the first WPS Champions.

Washington Freedom booked their place in the play-offs on the final game by beating Sky Blue FC 3-1

With the Boston Breakers losing to Los Angeles Sol, Sky Blue made up the final place.

Here is the final league table of 2009 and the Play-Off fixtures, updated with results.
