I just got word that the Dunkin Donuts in Penn Station New York would be replaced by Tim Hortons. New Yorkers are not fazed by much, but Tim Hortons replacing Dunkin Donuts in Penn Station may be a lot to swallow for many.

In case you didn’t know, Penn Station is the hub of what we call, “the city,” formally known as the borough of Manhattan. It is the financial capital of the world. Penn Station is the heart where all trains meet to deliver the who’s who of the decision makers, at least those who have not arrived by limo. Filled with quick-stop stores and stands that cater to the needs of New Yorkers, they grab a cup of coffee, maybe a donut or two, and then run off to work in the city that NEVER sleeps.

Now, while I am all about the coffee, Dunkin Donuts is a staple in New York, known for its donuts as well as its coffee. Evidently, so is Tim Hortons. “Just who is this Tim Horton anyway?” you might ask. Tim Horton was a Canadian hockey legend who was also filled with the entrepreneurial bug. Amongst several other ventures, in 1964 he opened the Tim Horton Donut Shop in Ontario, Canada, which became a fast-growing franchise. With 2,930 locations in Canada and 527 locations already in the US, they must be feeling pretty cocky in spite of this economic downturn, because not only are they replacing the Penn Station Dunkin Donuts, they are opening eleven other locations in New York City as well.
