Rug Games
Guest Author - Eva Owsian

By Eva Owsian

Come on take a break from all that hard rug making and play a game of Rug Word Scramble or you can try out the Rug Hangman. They are both fun and can be great stress releasers. Remember we all need a little fun now and again. Speaking of fun and games, here are some ideas for your rugs.

When my son was learning how to read, we would take out our “special” rug and sit on it to read. Sometimes I would read and sometimes he would read. It really helps to make it a special occasion and for me it worked like a charm to help spark his interest in reading. Another great way to use your rugs is a game rug. Just roll it out for your family’s favorite board game and fun will be had by all.

My son has a very active imagination so I like to encourage it and I have made several smaller rugs (coaster size and slightly bigger) in various colors like green for “safe spot”, blue is the ocean or the water, black for a parking lot, red for shark infested waters and on and on. These smaller ones can also be used as a hiding spot or cave for army men. He would take it and slightly raise the middle part so that his “men” could fit it and then of course the cat, who is too big to fit, would try to get in. You can also make a helicopter landing pad or whatever their imagination comes up with.

I am thinking of making some coasters and placemats for high tea. Of course my son won’t be having tea with me but very soon I bet my new granddaughter will so here is yet another way to enjoy your rugs. Try using some very soft flannel and make yourself a meditation rug or a time to relax rug. Don’t limit yourself to just making rugs for your floors, use your imagination and I bet you can come up with even more ideas for various rugs. Oh how about a “time out” rug…..naaah that will probably not work.
