Thanks to my Smart Readers - A Royal Rumble Correction
Guest Author - Patty Therre

I want to give a shout out to aidenmoyles10, codesantra, metrobuzzy047, and whomever else I may have missed for writing in to remind me that, indeed, other Royal Rumble participants have entered at #1 and won.

I stated in my last column that no one has ever entered at #1 and won the Rumble, based on what Vince McMahon told Shawn Michaels on Raw. Silly me, I forgot that WWE rewrites history for storylines. Not to mention, as a Chris Benoit fan and a Shawn Michaels fan, I should be ashamed of myself.

However, the people who wrote in had different names and dates: Flair in 1990 (others said the 80's), Shawn Michaels in 1995, Chris Beonit in 2003 and then someone said 2004. One person said Jim Duggan in the 1980's and another mentioned Vince McMahon, who actually DID win the 1999 Rumble but was entrant #2.

So, I did some digging and here is the list of those who entered the Royal Rumber at #1 and won:

Shawn Michaels in 1995 and Chris Benoit in 2004.

Ric Flair was #3 in 1992 and went on to win, so thank you all for writing in and letting me know I was wrong about that statement.

Here is the full list of Royal Rumble winners and the order in which they entered the Rumble:

Year - Winner - Entry Number
1988 - "Hacksaw" Jim Duggan - 13
1989 - Big John Studd - 27
1990 - Hulk Hogan - 25
1991 - Hulk Hogan - 24
1992 - Ric Flair - 3
1993 - Yokozuna - 27
1994 - Bret Hart - 27
Lex Luger - 23
1995 - Shawn Michaels - 1
1996 - Shawn Michaels - 18
1997 - Stone Cold Steve Austin - 5
1998 - Stone Cold Steve Austin - 24
1999 - Vince McMahon - 2
2000 - The Rock - 24
2001 - Stone Cold Steve Austin - 27
2002 - Triple H - 22
2003 - Brock Lesnar - 29
2004 - Chris Benoit - 1
2005 - Batista - 28

We will know in hours who the 2006 winner is. I have a very strong suspicion of who it will be but will wait until after the show to comment. I will be back after the Rumble to run down the matches, give the results, and tell you if my suspicion was correct.

Keep reading and keep that feedback coming! You guy keep me on my toes!

Patty
