Public Healthcare Option is not American

I believe that the politically correct gibberish as to whether or not healthcare reform should include a public government ran healthcare option are not sincere, proper or factual arguments that claim that the economy, competition, or the free labor market will suffer. These political angles are just smoke-screens to cover up what many of the American people are not willing to say—- the quality and life value of the poor, down-trodden, sick and/or under class is not as valuable, worthy and important as the middle class, upper- class, working class or anyone who is physically and financially capable of carrying his or her own economic weight in mainstream American society.

Generally speaking, many Americans are the biggest, cold-hearted, and uncompassionate hypocrites in the world. The United States Declaration of Independence states, “We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness.” While Thomas Jefferson was composing this soul-stirring beautiful document his slaves were tending to his land—which is a direct contradiction in the values and morals that he was proclaiming for himself.

Americans are really good at saying one thing and doing another; it’s in our cultural DNA. We say that we are a nation of God fearing, loving, Christians who believe that people should “do unto others as they would have others do unto them” and “Love thy neighbor as thy love thyself” but this does not include the essential public service of providing quality, affordable healthcare for all American citizens.

I have heard republican candidates argue that if the government provides a public healthcare option this will diminish and possibly ultimately destroy the free market health insurance industry because the “small business person” will not be able to compete with government prices. Republicans have compared the public health care option to toilet paper, hamburgers, restaurants and other objects that can be reproduced and are in no way, shape or form, comparable to the irreplaceable value of a human life. I honestly cannot see the logic in fighting for a right to life—but not a right to a quality government run health care program that would provide affordable, top-of the-line healthcare for all American citizens regardless of their socioeconomic status.

In order for the Republican Party to make a rational, logical argument against a public option for healthcare they must compare it to the government providing clean and safe water to drink, the availability of electricity and how we process food and medicine. These programs carry the same importance, ethical issues and moral value as a public option for healthcare.

I am not going to try to appeal to the morality issue of all humans being equal and how we should love each other—this is an illusion of American democracy. Ask yourself, whether or not you would want “Joe Blow” owner of the small business enterprise providing tap water for you or would you prefer the public option that also includes certain health and safety standards?

President Obama, Congress, Democrats and Republicans please stop insulting my intelligence and call a spade a spade; we do not want to pay for the health care and well being of the poor citizens of the United States of America because they have no social, political, or economical value. Let’s be honest most of them don’t even vote, so why risk your political career on helping the sick and down-trodden. It took us 400 years to free our slaves and we still don’t know what to do with Native Americans on our reservations.

We will actually make more money off of their poverty and sickness than their health. Think of all the money that funeral homes, morticians, prisons, courts, judges, police officers, emergency room doctors, and social workers—would lose if these undesirable poor people had access to a quality public health care option. Think about all of the price mark-ups, bounced-check fees and loan interest rates that we make off of people who are underprivileged. Why don’t we just cut through the crap and say that the public health care option will help poor people and will not leave a loophole available for insurance companies to financially exploit them. This is the real issue. This is the true American way.
