Spot's Magical Christmas has been a favorite holiday movie in our household for a number of years. It is a short thirty minute animated movie packed with songs in an adventure that shares the fantasy of Christmas with kids. Spot books as well as the videos are by Eric Hill.
The video box has some flaps when you open it up to follow snowprints by two reindeer that need help in locating Santa’s lost sleigh on Christmas Eve. The back of the box has a gift tag to write in your last name as the owner of the video. Sweet Dreams, Spot is another video we have in this collection plus they have three others. We enjoy seeing the previews in this video, especially the one for the Very Hungry Caterpillar.
Spot’s Magical Christmas begins by showing the snow coming down outside with Spot hanging up ornaments on the tree as his mother is finishing the wrapping on some packages. Spot cannot reach the tree to attach one so moves a piece of furniture close to stand on but instead falls over startling his Mother. She decides at this time that Spot should go outside and help his father. After wrapping up for the cold, Spot finds his father to offer assistance on gathering logs for the fire. His mother had told him he was getting too excited and when his father asked him about the tree he said the tree was too excited.
Two reindeer lean over the fence inquiring if Spot and his father have seen a big red sleigh that is lost. Once Spot realizes it is Santa’s sleigh he follows the reindeer to ask more questions. Then the reindeer go into a song and dance explaining how they lost the magical sleigh on Christmas Eve when they took it out on its yearly test. This is a favorite part in our household as my five-year old just loves listening to them sing. The reindeer head off in search of the missing sleigh and then Spot tells his Dad he will go and ask Helen if perhaps she has seen the sleigh.
Helen is making cookies and soon comes to help in the search as Spot goes over to Tom’s house and then Steve comes along. They find a blue sled and take turns on it while looking for Santa’s sleigh. Spot finally does find the sleigh and then heads home to tell his Dad and wonders how he will find the reindeer to tell them the good news. Spot’s father tells him to follow the reindeer’s footprints so off he goes tracking them in the snow.
The reindeer are so happy they say they will give Spot a ride to see Santa Claus as a thank you for finding the sleigh. Spot must first ask his father so they stop off before heading to Santa’s workshop. Spot enjoys flying in the sleigh looking over his home and his friends and loves visiting the workshop. He meets Santa Claus and then goes home so they can get the job done of visiting all the houses in time for Christmas.
When Spot comes home his Dad is once again still gathering logs and mentions how it seemed like Spot was back in no time at all. The magical sleigh ride was an adventure for Spot visiting the North Pole. Once inside his house he puts his things away and gets the cookies and milk for Santa when he comes to drop off presents. Spot falls asleep in his little bed after he waves to the reindeer flying over his house. The next morning Spot receives a sleigh as his present with a note from the reindeer.
We enjoy the antics of Spot and his friends, watching them play around in the snow, fly in the sky with the reindeer and listen to the songs as well. It is a cute adventure that shows the fantasy of Christmas for little children and helps get in the mood of the season.
