Gluten Free Corn Bread


I found at the Whole Foods Market a frozen case that stocks all the GlutenFree Bakehouse products. This is near the bakery section, past the breads before the meat counters and wine sections.

The label on the corn bread states it was produced in a dedicated gluten-free facility. This is also listed as being all-natural. The package consists of 18 ounces with a serving size suggested at 2 ounces. This gives nine generous portions for one get together or meeting. 4% of daily value for calcium and iron.

I opened the package and placed it inside a plastic container keeping it inside the refrigerator. I could easily eat a piece of corn bread out of the container or place a sliver on a plate for ease. The package measures 8" x 6". The color of the corn bread is a nice orange shade. I usually like butter on my corn muffins, but never felt the need to add anything to the corn bread, thus keeping it plain each time I consumed a piece.

The calories from one portion is 160 with 70 from fat. The sodium is at 370 mg, sugar at 6 grams, protein is 3 grams, carbs at 22 grams. The ingredients are buttermilk (cultured fat-free milk, salt, vitamin A palmitate, vitamin D3), cornmeal, eggs, canola oil, sugar, potato starch, corn starch, baking powder (sodium bicarbonate, cornstarch, monocalcium phosphate), salt,xanathan gum, baking soda.

This product contains eggs and milk and is produced in a facility that processes peanuts, tree nuts, soy, eggs and dairy products. The Whole Foods Market Gluten-Free Bakehouse is located in North Carolina. The cost is $4.99 for the loaf of corn bread.

I finished my loaf and will need to purchase another one on the next trip over to Whole Foods. This is suitable for anyone who has skin irritations and wants to remove wheat and gluten from their diet. Those that suffer with celiac disease and/or have wheat or gluten sensitivities can enjoy a slice of corn bread straight from the refrigerator.

I liked having a slice at various times of the day as a snack. I found one serving to keep me satisfied without the need for futher snacking. You can search to find a local Whole Foods market in your area and find out what specials they have.
