Choosing Blue Book Review

Choosing Blue Book Review
When you’re looking for ideas on how to display your floral arrangements, books on interior design are a great source of information.

Watson-Guptill recently released a very helpful title. “Choosing Blue-Color You Can Live With” is by Stephanie Hoppen. It features lush color photos by noted photographer Andreas Von Einsiedel. This easy to use decorating guide features stunning examples and reveals a totally new way to decorate with blue.

The author devotes an entire chapter to each particular shade of blue, including checks and stripes. With all of these inspiring examples, there is no reason to settle for ho-hum boring rooms any more. The decorating styles include everything from updated French Country to eclectic, which isn’t for the faint of heart.

What I like best about this book is that so many of the settings feature flowers. This gives floral designers a great way to learn how to coordinate floral arrangements into interior design. For example, the title page shows a Moorish setting accented with creamy colored tulips in blue-and-white porcelain vases. Throughout the book, the author presents the work of leading interior designers with quotes and highlights of their careers.

For each shade of blue, the author includes color charts showing compatible colors. With so many inspiring examples, there are ideas here to suit every situation.

I was really impressed by the simplicity of the floral designs. Most are minimalist. For example, a bunch of red-ripe rose hips are displayed on a bookcase in a bedroom. A collection of clear glass bottles are filled with red tulips instead of the usual centerpiece for a dining table.

The author explains all the different kinds of blues from cornflower blue to teal, and pale blues along with what she calls sensual blues.

This book has an entire section devoted to blue flowers in which the author recommends her favorites.

Throughout the book are inspiring quotes by Picasso, and others. The appendix contains a helpful resource directory.

The author is known worldwide for her best-selling books on home decorating. She has written nine books, and has 35 years of experience in the field. She established her own art gallery in London in 1981.
