2008 Women’s Sport Bike Rally

2008 Women’s Sport Bike Rally
The third annual 2008 Women’s Sport bike Rally will be held August 22nd through the 24th in the beautiful Great Smokey Mountains at the Fontana Village Resort in Fontana Dam, N.C. The Women’s Sport Bike Rally was created by two sport bike enthusiast women that decided that the sport bike arena was missing women participation. In 2005, Stephani McIntyre and Kiri Hunter, both avid sport bike enthusiasts, got together and initiated this annual women’s sport bike event. They chose Fontana Village Resort for the beauty and the many dangerous curves, for example, Deals Gap, also named the “Dragon”, just like women, beautiful and dangerously curvy.

This ride is not all about riding but also about raising money for a worthy cause. All proceeds of this ride will go to the Tiffany Weirbach, "Sportbikegirl", Melanoma Foundation. Tiffany Weirbach was one of the first women to use the internet to spread her love of riding and sport bikes. At only 21, she was diagnosed with stage III malignant melanoma. Tiffany inspired women to get out and ride. Sadly, Tiffany lost her battle to cancer in 2001, at the age of 24, but her love for sport bikes will live on through this event. When you are participating in outdoor sports it is easy to forget to put on the sunscreen, but motorcycling subjects you to wind and sun and is very hard on the skin. Make sure you take the proper precautions and use sunscreen, proper eye gear and clothing.

The event slogan is the phrase, “It’s All About the Curves” that helps promote participation and interest. The focus on this event is riding and women, a powerful combination. All women sport riders, regardless of age, sport bike, or ability are welcome. The official sponsor of this event is Schampa Technical Gear, a maker of athletic gear for outdoor sports.
This is an event in a beautiful location with excellent riding roads, a worthy cause, and a chance to share your love of sport bikes and riding.

Until next week, do what you love and love what you do.
