Picture Perfect Party

Modern day photo booths are popping up all over the place. Complete with props they add another level to party entertainment. Most party goers either: A) don’t mind taking pictures of other guests, or B) don’t mind having their picture taken. The photo booth is the perfect interactive activity and as a double bonus it solves the question of what type of party favor to include. This may or may not negate the need for a photographer. However, if you’re after quality, professional pictures may be needed.

Props
Look to your own closets for clothing, jewelry, shoes or any other item that would be suitable for guests to play dress up in. Have your children raid their closets as well. In case you don’t want to share your stash, make a beeline to the thrift stores. They will have everything needed to play dress up, probably more than you can unearth at home. Even though the clothes from thrift stores have been cleaned, it’s a good idea to wash them again and iron if necessary.

If you’re purchasing shoes, spray them with foot or shoe deodorizer and provide nylon footies or socks for guests to slip on their feet.

Plan B
The kids can have just as much fun taking pictures without renting a photo booth. Hire a professional photographer or enlist the services of a family member or friend who wouldn’t mind taking the pictures. If the budget allows, give them a stipend for their services. Also, try to get them in the pictures so they can get in on the wackiness.

Whether you’re renting a booth or hiring a friend, set up the photo spot in a well lit area, preferably with natural light. A professional may have and bring a backdrop. If not a white or light colored sheets works just as well. Balloons, lanterns and streamers can also be added.

Music
Upbeat and lively music encourages kids of all ages to get up and dance. The right music may also help someone is feeling a bit shy and unphotogenic to loosen up a bit. Online radio stations or a prerecorded party play list is easier on the budget than a DJ. Always listen to the music for a kids party to make sure it is appropriate. Music related to the party’s theme is also a fun idea, although it may be limited.

Party Favors
If you’re using a rented photo booth, you’ll get prints of your pictures right away. Dollar store or DIY frames with an attached thank you tag are a great go with. Pictures that have to be processed and or printed can be handed out when they’re done. Guests will still be able to take home the frames.
