Picking Your Products

Picking Your Products
Have you decided what you want to sell? Perhaps you just want to clear out the clutter, maybe you want to make money for something special or you may even want to start a new career, whatever the reason it’s important to know what will sell and what will just cost you money in listing fees. A little research will pay dividends.

Electronic items are the most sought after items. The most searched for items currently on Ebay are wii, ipod and xbox360. You will find page after page of these items listed in most of the top auction sites. They sell well but the competition can be strong. If you are prepared to promote these items and work hard at getting your items noticed, then there is a good profit to be made here.

Some of the largest storefronts are booksellers. This is a good place to start selling. A lot of people browse the book section and if you can offer them a good deal and cross promote your items – mention similar items that you stock – you stand a good chance of getting off to a good start. Harry Potter, Stephen King and 1st editions are popular searches.

Movies are another hot seller. Again there is a lot of competition but if you can find a really good dropshipper you should be able to compete very well. The top searches here are DVD, Disney and Blue Ray. The key here seems to be low cost, fast turnaround and cheap delivery. Rental companies are competitors but people still like to own movies so they can watch them over and over.

Jewellery is another popular item, especially one off pieces. Go on a few sites and see what people are bidding on. Remember, jewellery can be strongly promoted for dates like Valentine’s Day, Mother’s Day and Christmas as well as being ideal for Birthday presents, Graduation presents etc. A storefront would be a good idea here as well as using cross promotion and good quality photographs.

Handbags and other accessories are also good sellers. These can be dropshipped very successfully. This saves you time and money as there is no large start up cost and the items are mailed for you. Again, storefronts will help you to cross promote these items which could improve your sales dramatically.

Whatever items you decide to sell remember the golden rule. Research your products thoroughly. Find out as much as you can about your items, this helps with customer queries but more importantly, it teaches you the value of your items. Use this information to help sell your products by mentioning any special qualities or uses these items may have. Become an expert in your field and customers will soon recognise this and be more open to looking at other products you list.
