Bad Boys of Summer

Guest Author - Elizabeth Darrach

Hello, and welcome back! Our booksigning Saturday with Maggie Shayne, Terri Brisbin and Joy Nash went very, very well, and we're trying to work out plans to bring them all back in the fall! I can hardly wait! Hopefully some of you who're not too far will be able to get here then. But fall is still months away, and we have to get through summer first (after our spring rain finally lets up, that is). Which leads me to our first book for the week, the first of the June releases.

Bad Boys of Summer Bad Boys of Summer (Brava) has stories by two of my faves and one whose story I liked much better this time than last. In 'Luscious' by Lori Foster, Bethany Churchill is staying with her sister, but her twin's landlord, Lucius Ryder, really gets under her skin. They've set off sparks before, but now that she's in the same building for a little longer, those sparks have a real chance to become an inferno. As always, plenty of heat in Ms. Foster's story, along with real romance. Erin McCarthy's 'It's About Time' has lawyer Trish Jones doing a favor for a friend after being stood up, and a favor is all she intends it to be: just keep Caleb Vancouver from drinking himself into oblivion and doing something even more stupid. Taking him home with her was definitely not in the plans for the evening. With Ms. McCarthy's stories, you know to expect humor and hot sex. You won't be disappointed with this one. Amy Garvey's 'Wish You Were Here' has photographer Mackenzie Pruitt lusting after her new handyman Leo Dawson, but he holds out, trying to keep his secret. For me, this one was the biggest surprise, with more romance than mystery as in her past stories--which was my biggest disappointment with them. I was very pleasantly surprised with this one. I'm giving the collection four and a half of Cupid's five arrows.

The Man She'll Marry The Man She'll Marry (Harlequin American Romance #1120) by Ann Roth is next. Cinnamon Smith's visit to her friend Fran is both a break and a hideaway while she plans her next move. Forced out of her job, she's got to find something new and fast. Nick Mahoney isn't her usual type, but they can't keep their eyes off each other. But Nick knows he really isn't her type; they're far too different for him to even consider hooking up with the business consultant temporarily. They just can't quite resist, however. This one is mostly sweet, with some fairly realistic issues to deal with, for both Cinnamon and Nick. It'll keep you reading all the way till the end. It's earned four arrows.

Until next time, happy reading!
