Successful Women Set and Achieve Goals

Setting goals is fine but it is achieving them that makes the difference between dreaming of success and making your personal and professional success a reality. Here are a few tips for setting and achieving your goals.

“When you realize what you really want - It stops you from chasing butterflies and puts you to work digging gold.” William Moulton Marsden

Simply put, goals give you a sense of purpose, meaning and direction. Goal setting is a mindset, an action plan and state of being. It all sounds very complicated but it’s really about having a plan and working that plan day-by-day.

Know what you want. I remember when I was trying to decide what I wanted my dad said to me, “If you don’t know what you want to achieve in life, you’ll be willing to settle for anything you get.” Isn’t that the truth? Zig Ziglar, the “grandfather of the self-development movement,” calls it being a wandering generality. Do you have a clear picture of what you want your life to be like now and into the future?

Write your goal as an affirmation. Example: I, Sharon Michaels, on or before June, 2010 will own or rent a three bedroom two bath summer retreat located directly on the Atlantic Ocean in southern Maine. Let’s look at my goal: 1. It is specific, 2. It is a positive statement, 3. I’ve claimed it as mine, 4. It forms a vivid and motivating picture in my mind. When I read and repeat my goal affirmation I can actually feel the emotional excitement of spending summers in Maine.

Set daily, weekly, monthly steps for achieving your goal. Have a step-by-step plan for making this goal reality. Know what you’re willing to do each day, week and month to keep yourself going forward, toward your goal. Small bite-sized steps can make goal achievement very “doable.” Even major life-changing goals are achieved one small productive step at a time.

Work your plan consistently. Consistency of purpose is a key to goal achievement. Set priorities, be determined and remain focused on what’s important. “Stuff” happens along the way, that’s inevitable. The key is to not allow the "stuff" to overwhelm your plans for the future.

Believe, without an ounce of doubt, that you are worthy and deserving of success, happiness and unlimited prosperity. Believe you deserve to be living out your goal. You will only allow yourself to achieve what you believe you deserve to have and enjoy. Are you setting emotional limitations on your success?

Developing and maintaining an unstoppable belief in the ability to achieve your goals creates positive energy. This positive and powerful energy can literally attract the right people, places and opportunities into your life. Goals become reality when the belief you have in yourself is unstoppable.
