Free Help for Victims of Abuse

Statistics show that one out of four women, and one out of 33 men will be sexually abused at some point during their lifetime. However, these statistics are not accurate due to the fact that sexual abuse often goes unreported. One of the main reasons why sexual abuse may never be reported is due to the fact that it is often difficult to discuss. Couple that with the fact that many people are abused by someone they know, love, and trust and you can see how discussing issues of sexual abuse is challenging. Yet, one thing is certain; for women to truly find healing from issues of sexual abuse they must talk and they must receive counseling. Now, the RAINN (Rape, Abuse, and Incest National Network) provides free help for victims of sexual abuse.
RAINN provides a free National Sexual Assault Hotline toll free. The number is 1-800-656-HOPE (4673). The number is available 24 hours a day and is often the first step that many women and men take in reaching inner healing from sexual abuse. But for some, reaching out and picking up the telephone is too difficult. For these men and women, the idea of verbalizing the abuse and trauma theyve ensued is too painful and no matter how much theyd like to make the phone call; they never do. Now, men and women (boys, girls and teens) can find help through online chat sessions provided by trained RAINN volunteers.
If you think that chatting with someone would be easier than calling the toll-free number, youre not alone. You can even take a tour of the website to get a sense of how the chat sessions work, to provide an even greater sense of comfort and familiarity when you chat with someone. First, the tour will explain how the chat sessions work, and ensure you that your privacy and confidentiality will be protected. You will then need to read through the terms of services and agree to them before beginning your session. The terms of service also help to ensure that your privacy is protected as well. The network also stresses that if you are in immediate danger that you must call 9-1-1 and seek immediate help. Remember that RAINN works with local rape counseling centers worldwide so if you need assistance determining whom you can talk to the trained volunteer will help you. If you have been the victim of sexual abuse or assault, and havent spoken to anyone or received counseling contact RAINN. They care about your safety and well-being and are ready to provide you support.
