Spanish Prepositions - ANTE -

Preposition "ante"

Pronunciation: ante (click on it to listen)
Origins: "ante" comes from the Latin "ante".
English equivalents: before, in front of.

Uses:
This preposition is easy to learn:
1. We use this preposition when we refer to locations, places, physical position, etc. Let's say, we'd use it when answering a "Where" ("Dónde") question:

- ¿Dónde está la casa? (Where is the house?)
- La casa está ante tus ojos (The house is before your eyes)

- ¿Dónde está tu hermano? (Where is brother?)
- Mi hermano está ante la ventana (My brother is in front of the window)

2. You don't have to confuse "ante"; and "antes de", as "ante" is not used before a verb, although "antes de" also means "before".
In fact, "antes de" is used with expressions of time.

- Piensa en ello antes de hablar. (Think about it before talking).

- Antes de hablar con ella, habla conmigo. (Before talking with her, talk with me)

These are the main uses for this Spanish preposition. This section will be updated soon so... get tuned!! And don't forget about the "Ante" poll! It is placed after the "Recommended material" section.

As always, for any question or comment, e-mail me or go to the Spanish Forum and post it.
¡Hasta pronto!
