Autism Summer Institute
This three-day event taking place from Monday, August 14 - Wednesday, August 16, 2006 covers three topics. Monday is Self-Determination, Tuesday is Emotions with Wednesday Literacy & Learning.
Keynote Speakers are Stephen Shore, Ros Blackburn, Chris Kliewer and Larry Bissonette. Tuesday and Wednesday are break-out sessions that range from Sensory Motor Strategies, Positive Behavioral Interventions, AAC/Communication Supports, Classroom Based Supports and Strategies, Curriculum Design & Adaptation and Families and Schools.
There are two sessions daily of workgroups plus a light breakfast and lunch are provided. There is a price of $50 for attending just a keybote presentation, the three day conference price for professionals is $390 with the cost to a student or parent set at $290.00
The events take place from 8:30 - 4:30 at the Holloway Commons, UNH Durham Campus. The brochure in pdf format is five pages. The 8th Annual Autism Summer Institute is presented by The New Hampshire Resource Center on Autism Spectrum Disorders in collaboration with The Autism Sociey of NH.
All those in attendance will receive certificate of three credits through the University of New Hampshire. Online registration. Several of the presenters are adults on the Autism Spectrum.
This conference is suitable for professionals, persons on the Autism Spectrum, therapists, teachers, parents and paraprofessionals working directly within the autism community. Local Accommodations for the event.
I attended a Los Angeles Conference several years ago where Stephen Shore was a key-note speaker and learned a great deal by watching and listening to him. If you plan on attending the Autism Summer Institute, I suggest perusing his book, Beyond the Wall beforehand to gain further insight into living with Autism Spectrum Disorders.
