When I first got interested in magic I took a trip to the local library. I found several great books with some very good tricks.
My library system allows me to order books from libraries all over Ohio. Over 365 books on the subject of magic. Many of them are new releases. Plus there are the classics. George Hay and Mark Wilson magic books. Books on building magic props, books on the histroy of magic, and books on doing magic with household items.
One of the most popular books among magicians is Ricky Jays' book on card throwing. It sometimes sells on EBay for as much as $200. I ordered it in free from my library.
A library I visited in Connecticut had the entire Tarbell Magic Course on its shelf.
Prefer magic videos? The libraries also have instructional and operformance videos on their shelves. My local library system has four Tony Hassini instructional magic videos, one by the Great Tomsoni, and several others.
Rather than looking for your next trick at the magic shop, why not check out the local library? I am sure you will find some wonderful effects you can do that not every magician in town is doing.
Happy hunting.
